Classroom Education Workshops

Thursday, 15 December 2011

As our lives get busier and busier, the time we allow ourselves to spend learning and training seems to wither away. The option of distance education and online courses grows more and more attractive and can be an excellent option in some cases, but the benefits of face-to-face workshops cannot be ignored. Whether you're doing a bookkeeping course, a beekeeping course or learning how to knit, there are certain benefits you get in the classroom that you forgo in an online setting. Here are 4 advantages to face-to-face classroom-based workshops:

1. The Ability to Ask

Making mistakes and asking questions is how we learn. While an online course gives you email access to a tutor, it can't replace a real-time conversation where you're able to really nut out a problem or issue you may be having with the material. A face-to-face conversation with your teacher or a fellow classmate can clear up a misunderstanding in a matter of minutes, whereas in an online or distance-learning environment the misunderstanding could become compounded, affecting your achievement within the course.

2. Learn Through Doing

A classroom situation offers you the opportunity to practise and take part in whatever skill you're trying to learn, as well as get instant feedback on your progress. Theory is a big part of learning, but the actual practice is what hones your skills, and practising with a tutor present is a much quicker way to get it right.

3. Collaborative Learning

In the workplace, most of our work is collaborative. Collaboration and group-learning not only speeds up the process of achieving our goals, but the actual process of compromising and debating issues in a group environment is invaluable training for a real-life career situation. A classroom setting not only allows you to learn from other people's successes, it allows you to learn from their mistakes. They say that a mistake is the quickest way to learn something, and with several other people all making mistakes along with you, it goes without saying that the learning process would be hastened.

4. Consistency

A face-to-face classroom environment holds us accountable for our work. We're required to show up and engage with the material, rather than simply put in a sporadic effort at home and fudge our way through the course. specially for people who have issues with procrastination, classroom workshops prevent slacking off and ensure you must turn up consistently, which immediately puts you at an advantage in terms of your capacity to learn!

Whether you're in leadership training or learning Cantonese, face-to-face classroom workshops provide the kind of hands-on learning that often leads to quicker, better results and more confident and experienced graduates.
